He trained at the Lecoq school in Paris studied with Augusto Boal, Growtowski, Peter Brook, Alvin Ailey and Mike Alfreds.</p> <p>David worked as a soloist performing in forty countries then established the David Glass Ensemble in 1990 winning international awards including TMA award for best director for his adaptation of Gormenghast. In 1998 he established the Lost Child Project using theatre to give street children around the world a voice to tell their stories. Taking place in 22 countries The Lost Child Project, helped establish a highly creative approach to Arts In Development.</p> <p>David now teaches around the world. He is a visiting Tutor at LAMDA, University of the Arts Bournemouth, East Fifteen, Bath Spa University, Surrey University, Kami Haque Centre, Singapore and DPAC Malaysia</p> <p>In April 2016 he re-launched The David Glass Ensemble as a platform for help establish Young People in the Arts and Theatre Internationally. David continues to work nationally and internationally and Mentors 16 young artists around the world. Together they produce provocative performance work that addresses political issues with humour and emotion. The company often works in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and local communities to create evocative performances that challenge and respond to the audience. Together they have created a body of touring work including “SAY SOMETHING” (2011), “To Die For” (2007), “Silent Movie” (2004) “Faked” (2003), “Butterfly Belly” (2002) and “Ostrich” (2000). Their work has been performed throughout England, Sweden, Norway, France, Germany and Belgium. H2DANCE was a Place Prize Finalist with their piece “DUET” in 2013.</p> <p>H2DANCE have delivered commissions from Surrey Dance Collective (2013), North Kent Local Authority Arts Partnership (2011), The Place (2010), BIG Dance (2008), Värmlandsoperan, Sweden (2005) Guardians of Doubt (2004), LUDUS (2002), Norrdans, Sweden (2001) and The Wapping Project (2003 and 2000). The work is based on strangers meeting for the first time, negotiating presumptions, judgments, trust, collaboration and intimacy. ‘Strangers & Others’ reveals the audience member’s personal taboos and conventions by asking one simple question: How can we come together, co-exist and create understanding and empathy between social groups and cultures?</p> <p>The audience will be directed live through the experience wearing headphones, taking instructions from choreographers Hanna Gillgren and Heidi Rustgaard. They will be set up as two groups without them knowing, so that they at times get opposing instructions which they will have to negotiate. They will cooperate in silence only using appearance, physical language and reactions as a guide. The audience will move around, react to the environment, create shapes that constantly grow and shrink each time a person enters or moves away. After 13 years together the two choreographers take a brutally honest look at themselves revealing a confused and disillusioned relationship. The constant quest for power and admiration has taken its toll. How can two artists negotiate their artistic practise on an equal level without feeling compromised? DUET is a humorous and provocative investigation into life as a twosome. Jean will explore the fluid nature of Identity and how loss impacts and influences us. Loss is a consequence of living. We are losing things and people from the moment we are born, it is all part of our evolution as human beings – letting go, progression and transformation. Jean will explore the positive, transformative aspects of loss rather than its associations with death, sorrow and melancholia. <em>Solo for two</em> looks at the notion of ‘origin’ not as fixed a point in time or space but as always impure and contaminated points of departures, shared with others only to be left and lost<em>. </em></p> <p>In <em>Solo for Two</em>, Jean Abreu will revisit the archive of his dancer’s body, formed in-between different cultures and dance languages.
